View Full Version : Why does Nintendo do this?

Tell me this, what do the following things have in common?

First: Quest 64 / Etale Monsters / Holy Magic Century

Second: Goemon's Great Adventure / Goemon2 Derodero / Mystical Ninja 2

If you guessed they are all basically the same game with different names, you are absolutely correct. So.. why? Marketing plot maybe for each area the game is sold? Mystical Ninja 1 to Goemon's Great Adventure which is Mystical Ninja 2.. why not just call it Mystical Ninja 2 then? http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif Sorry to babble on about it, I've just always wondered. And hey, someone please explain to me what is what in the "Bust A Move" game family. Usa has Bust A Move 99 and Bust A Move 2 Arcade Edition. Pal has Bust A Move 2 and Bust A Move 3D. Jap only has Puzzle Bobble as far as I know. Can anyone tell me which games are the same.. which are different in each case? Thank you much.

Maybe companies do this to piss people like you off who think they're downloading different games but they turn out to be the same thing they've had for ages.

It's their only defense.

The different names are used for localization purposes. A Japanese name translated to english would not mean much to Americans and vice versa. What exactly does Goemon Ganbare mean??? Oh I mean Mystical Ninja... Just like a Big Mac is a Royal with Cheese in Europe..

They use different names for marketing purposes.... Some advertisement freaks tell the companies what title fits best for the region the game is released, and that's why they use different names for each region.

btw: a big mac is still a big mac here, only in France it's a royal with cheese... But we DO have the Mc Kroket here in the Netherlands http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/wink.gif

No. A Quarter Pounder (us) is a Royal with cheese in Europe, because of the metric system. We Europeans wouldn´t know how much a quarter of a pound is. http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

Bust-A-Move 2: Arcade Edition USA = Bust-A-Move 2 PAL.

Bust-A-Move 3 DX (DX as in deluxe, note 3D) PAL = Bust-A-Move '99 USA.

Puzzle Bobble 64 JAP comes off as it's own game, probably because of the different title and maybe JAP text.

Quarter Pound? 1lb sterling = $1.61 US

Thus, about 40 cents US.

Thanks for the replies everyone, looks like from my topic of different names for the same games I have the new knowledge of how to order a Quarter Pounder with cheese in several countries.

Ps. Nintense.. Puzzle Bobble Jap is the same as Bust A Move 99 US. There has never been a JAP release of a second version I guess. It's just too easy for them. And here I struggle with Fire Electric Pen.

Ganbare Goemon: Ganbare literally translated means Go for it.
And who gives a fuck what a burger is in different countries, all I know is here in the UK we pay a shitload of money for some little streak of piss sized burger when in America they pay half the price and get a huge fuck-off sized half a cow in two loaves of bread. Example: Cheeseburger here £0.89 Yes Americans, that's $1.45 for a rubbery piece of crap that's about 3.5 inches across and 3/4 of an inch high if you're lucky and also tastes like shit.
So stop complaing and get them damn fatburgers down you!

A little story about why companies rename products for different markets: Back in the 70s a certain American car company decided to sell their cars in Europe with the same names. Well, one such car was called the "nova". In Spanish "no va" means "no go". Guess how many people wanted to buy a car that doesn't go? After that they always let their local division pick the names.

A Quarter Pounder is called a quarter pounder (cuarto de libra, whatever) in many countries, only the French are so damn insistant that everything be done the French way.

PS I think Puzzle Bobble was a better name... I wonder why they changed it.

Vertigo

Soul Edge was a better name too.
I beta-tested the arcade version in the UK d8¬)
I'll never work out why they didn't keep the cool intro music with the guy going 'Sooooul Eeeeedge!!!' That ran it totally but never appeared in the PSX version.
Just to stay on site topic: N64, development, demo, dextrose, actraiser, V64. d8¬)

H-Elec: Let's go off at a tangent or what? hehe
My favourite film of all time ever? Zulu. Second is the fantastic animé Patlabor. English sub version not dubbed, American voice actors are so shit compared to the Japanese originals. If you've never seen Patlabor and are into animé with a good plot, rent it definitely.

Starship Troopers is great, everytime I catch it on HBO I just can't change the channel. Some about the movie keeps me watching, I can't really explain it, hehe. Other movies I can watch over and over:

Men in Tights
The 5th Element (Damn, that bitch is hot)
Donnie Brasco
Eddie Murphy Raw (not really a movie, but funny as hell)
The Rainmaker (probably the Claire Danes factor)

Huh, Tenchi, Ranma? tThose are well, trash. The hole concept of them is to get young male viewrs by having girls prance around in next to nothing. If you want quality anime go for Fushugi Yoogi(Magical Scroll in US)or The Guyver. Both have much better charcter backgrounds and devolpment + some great action seans + an awsome story.

Troopers is a great film to watch. But I would'nt go out and buy it or anything. Its just a combat thriler. No real story here, just put them on a planet, see the shoot a bug, see them shoot a big bug.

Men in Tights, ain't nothing wrong with that film. Brooks is a god when it comes to imatation comody.

Speaking of comody and the UK. Who here loves Red Dwarf! who's you favorite character? Whats your favorite sceane.

Am I the only American film buf left playing game?(Film $ Special effects are my major)
