I'm sure most of you saw that news post by actraiser a short while ago about the guy who built his own n64 copier.
Saving, speed, and other things aside, what I'm really curious about is how much it would actually cost if someone wanted to build this thing.
Speculation and educated guesses are welcomed.

Umm it MIGHT be possibile that this thing is
compatibile with bung's cart. Im looking into the design with one of my friend who is an expert in chip planning matters (read:magic)
In the meantime act please share info with us about this if you know sumthin!

The copier designed by Valery is basically a V64jr. If you're building
yourself one it would probably cost more than the real thing -- not to
mention that you have to burn the PLD and perform the soldering job,
which if you don't have the right equipment would be a nightmare in
itself... If you have the required tools and experience, you probably
also have a good supplier for the parts so you could break even for
the price (but giving the current prices for the MEMORY it's not 100%
sure...). In systesys, if you like to tinker, and you have all the
tools it's very educative and an all-around interesting passtime for a
few days, but IS NOT A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO THE COMMERCIAL
PRODUCTS...

Hmm I dont think it will cost more than bung's stuff. If you have some friends at the local Tech.Universitiy they can do it...
Also the memory is not really an issue because its OLD and cheap, we talk about simple EDO RAM not SD mind that!!
handy

No no, bugs, EDO memory is NOT simple. The voltage of the chip is very specific & EDO memory, 64 meg chips, if you haven't looked lately, are around $170.00 each & the Doc Jr 512k with free shipping is only $199.00

If it were 512k then you wouldn't be able to play any game on it http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif . It's 512 megaBITS not 512k.

Well I dont know guys but in Hungary we have some used PC shops and EDO is dirt cheap here... nobody need it anymore and there are some companies who make the PCB for roughly 10$ . Sounds tempting eh?

jsut64bits and how do you want us to make the access speed to the memmory faster then 16, 4MB SIMMs together are really slow
just64bits

remember that price of one piece of 64MB does not equal to four 16MB simms.
maybe someone should built a v64jr clone using 16 (sixteen) FPM 4MB simms which is now at about $2 a piece at local CompUSA ...
