A few months ago I remember there was a new dextrose being devoloped, it was a dextrose dreamcast site. It was never really complete only under construction, with the Dextrose Dreamcast Logo on it. My question is what happend??? Is it ever going to be, or was it just thrown away. Is the copy protection on the DC so good that we can forget about ever seing a backup for it???
I want to know honestly from someone that knows, not bullshit or a stupid rumor going around the internet, will we be seeing any DC backups anytime soon or ever??? Thank you any help would be appreciated

I'd say just forget about it until DC games can be copied. BTW I keep seeing an ad in the aben-64 newsgroup posted by mspsx@something who claims to have DC mod chips that let you play import games (but obviously not copies because there are none). Is there really a mod chip that let's you play JAP games on your U.S. system or Vice-Versa?

Also please keep this site going until the very last commercial N64 game is released, even if it's only updated like once a month when the N64 is near death.

Yep .. the DC-Site is on hold (i wouldnt say its dead) until proper information, free development tools, and a affordable connection between pc and dc is available ...

Dont count on it to soon though ...

That web site also said that it was NOT out
yet. Not surprising.

I remember one web site that said they would have a $99 N64 backup unit any day. Been a couple years. I think.

at this time, there is no mod out. the chips (dreamchips called) should be released sometimes around the 14th october, the release date of the dreamcast in europe. they want to test, if the chips work with european-games.

i know just one site which sells dc-copies. it seems, that the owner of it is well known in the psx-scene. he was one of the first with psx-silvers. i know someone who ordered games some days ago, but hasnt received anything yet. as soon as i get more infos i post it here.

Have a look at www.dreamchip.com (http://www.dreamchip.com)

They managed to copy Dreamcast games ages ago in Hong Kong, I'm not sure how though. It didn't need an internal chip, and used normal CD ROMs. Don't ask me how, but if you look at http://www.dreamcast.co.uk it's somewhere in the news archives.

Okay, from that news site.. they used an external modcart/dreamchip type thing, then copied the games onto standard CDs. A few problems here..

1) Nobody has seen a working dreamcast modchip/cart
2) Extracting the data from a dreamcast disk would be difficult, requiring interfacing to a pc or coding a dreamcast program to do it.
3) What if the game data is > 650MB? I guess then you need a ripped version without the video or audio
4) How exactly do you make the game access the CD instead of the DC disk? The low level drivers will access it in DC format. The BIOS or game would need to be modified to run from CD.

Thats an interesting challenge..
