I was wondering if any of you guys know any info about the first arcade version. I always wanted Rare to port the arcade to N64 - heck that's one of the reasons I bought N64 in the first place, I was planning on it.
I loved those FMV clips before fights, after fights, after beating the game, those huge camera panning shots. And what about that superb sound, and those 80-hit combos. Damn that game looked sweet, especially with those sparks bouncing on the ground.
Jesus, I bet Rare would do pretty good selling those carts if they made 'em.
Anyway, if someone could just please make my dream come true...

Odd, Rare's site seems to be down. Well when it's back up, it does have information on their arcade games there.
According to Nintendo's marketing department Killer Instinct was running on early Ultra64 hardware. Well as you can see they certainly fooled us with their marketing at least. The final N64 hardware doesn't come close.
I remember those infinite hit combos you could do with Cinder too d8¬) Hit the somersault then the torpedo move over and over, I saw a 200+ combo in Namco Wonderpark once.

You might have seen some geezer I know called Lee doing that, he was the bollocks at that game. He also managed to pull out 100 with the last boss (juggled someone in the air with a barge). Best I got was 80.

Shame about Picadilly Wonderpark closing down... something to do with those 'triad' kids (I use that term loosely...)

both Crusing World and Killer Instinct were running on what ever Midway's standard hardware was at the time...

If you look very cloesly niether Nintendo, Rare or Midway ever claimed that the games were running on Ultra 64 hardware, the idea was that "once the Ultra 64 is release it will be as techincaly advanced as this...."

And the triad kiddiez in the Wonderpark never worried, the big black chiq who hang around Sega World in huge flocks worries me...

I remember looking at an old Nintendo Power back in '94 or '95, when they released info on the N64. I remember it had pictures of FMV from KI Arcade, and a picture or conceptual picture of Robotech : Crystal Dreams. It also had info on the companies that would be developing stuff for the N64 too.
Anyway, goddamn, I feel like finding KI 1 - the arcade machine and buying it. I want it. I need it. Gimme it!

Oh yeah, anyone else remember just watching the KI 1 machine do its display thing?
Remember that voice that said : "Coming soon to your Ninteno home entertainment system Ultra 64.... ... Killer Instinct!" - or something close to that.
Ultra 64 is such a better name, too bad they couldn't have been able to keep it.

And about those combos, did you guys ever see that thing with Sabrewulf (or Spinal) on Eyedol's stage (with the lava)? That is one of the craziest things I ever saw.

Except that the proper hardware wasn't nearly as powerful as the hardware that ran Killer Instinct, and it was a 32-bit cabinet.
Wonderpark was great, Sega world has too many kids, and Funland seems to be just empty nowadays, even on a Saturday afternoon.
Wonder where everyone's gone.

It's a pity about the way the Troc has gone isn't it. I used to spend my life down there. Oh yeah, couple of weeks ago, I fished my KI Gold ROM and i got to say, it's not bad at all. With every fighter now in 3D, its always forgotten but I'd really like to see a third in the series.

It's nice and fluid and fast, certainly better than the 6/10 that many places gave it. Hopefully Rare will make a new game, maybe Dolphin launch title to show of their particle and lighting effects etc of the new machine. I think the N64 won't see another one, but it will have to be very different, not like Gold, which was a little bit too similar and not enough options.
