I wonder why DK64 and JFG use different types of savibg and protection, I would expect their to be one department at rare dealing with this type of thing.

I know there are 2 different teams working on the 2 games but it seems that they are completely independent.

Perhaps the JFG team will be getting extra turkey this christmas while the dk64 team will be getting the bad joke in the cracker!

People who play pirate N64 games make up a VERY VERY small percentage of N64 owners, so they dont really give much of a damn. Yes, we see copy protection in Nintendo published games but I doubt that they invest a high amount of time nor money in this.
Just look at Bung, they are a very tiny company, most people have never seen or heard of a backup unit, its not like the PSX where every man and his monkey have a "chipped" psx.

Isn't it so that Flash-RAM has a higher storage capicity??

DK64 maybe hasn't got the need for it and so uses eeprom.

Maybe it's also a costs thing.

It might also be to do with the fact that DK64 has been in production for a long time, and has been about 99.9% finished for just under a year (it was to late for last xmas, plus with zelda and the like nintendo whould'nt want to release it).. during the design and production phase they whould of picked double sized eprom and made the design around that, changing to flashrom or sram whould not of been an option, rember they have to get approval from nintendo who will of booked the production line in advance..

Theres a 100 and 1 factors that whould affect why it's double eprom and not flashrom/ram....

Also Nintendo dont really try and stop people copying thier games, as a VERY low percentage of people have a copier, they are more keen on stopping people using import adaptors or action replay devices

Well if back in the day the fucking stupid corporate fucks had decided on a universal tv standard none of this would happen and they could concentrate on getting great games to the whole world. They are stupid to region game consoles anyway, fuck the marketing men, I mean here in the UK they held back Smash Bros until Pokémon came out because they wanted to make sure everyone knew who Pikachu was. Do me a fucking favour. Nintendo has patronised everyone since the very beginning of NOA and it's more obvious than ever that a lot of public aren't happy with the way they do business. Maybe this is why NOA seems to be doing a lot of the next-gen work, because Yamauchi will retire and doesn't have a proper successor in Japan. And to top it all off an email to NOA from here gets a reply that they can't really speak for Europe and to visit NOE. ON A FUCKING GERMAN SITE!!! There is no English site for Europe. So I sent an email to them anyway and got an automail back in German. REALLY FUCKING USEFUL. I love Nintendo and their games but they really fuck me off a lot, it's frustrating that probably the best games developer in the world treats their consumers like this and now their dominance has gone they have to grow up fast.
End of the weekly rant before I really get into it.
Oh and to actually answer your question and everything: maybe DKC just doesn't need more space, there's not much info to save in a DKC game while there is loads to each JFG game. End of.

Also double eeprom is probably cheaper than flash ram and since they were including the expansion pak they had to keep other costs down.
