I have a CD64 and sinse upgrading it to 256Meg some games have become unstable. I have 60ns EDO ram and it "kind of works" ie
cant tell when its going to crash. Are there
different types of EDO ram???

Yes, there are different types of ram, some which are better than others. Hopefully an expert on it can help you out with the specifics. Is your ram a name brand? Usually those are more reliable.

Cool, I figured as much, I suppose the real question is.... Has anyone else had this problem and what is the exact specification of the memory thats required?

If you try the CD64 site you'll see the memory specs. Weird thing is, people say they arent the memory you need to use. If you look at the picture of the cd inside, you can see the memory simm has 8 chips, yet they specify a 4 x 4 simm. It's pretty confusing to say the least.
I think that you need 8 chips on each side of the simm. Some people said a ps/2 edo 32 meg works fine. & some people said no one ever heard of those.

Just use the memory chips you use in most PC(EDO). I suggest the 64 megs since it's 256mbit. Also if you feel like playing some games that're over 256(re2,ogre whatever) then just upgrade

In the older cd64 units the actual dram chips on the EDO simm have to use 4x4 internal organisation. These are impossible to get hold of now. Apparently the newer units will work with any EDO SIMM.

What the hell Pokeboy you bring back a 1 whole year old thread and answer (incorrectly I might add) a question for a guy (Maddy) who hasn't been in the forum since last year.
