View Full Version : Possible solution for unreleased games!

I got this idea last night and would like to know people's opinion about it and if they are interested.

I was looking at www.buyrite1.com (http://www.buyrite1.com) and saw that they have Custom Robo for $70. I was a little tempted to buy the game, but decided that $70 was too much. Then I got an idea. Anyone who would like to see this game released could put some money towards it. Then I would buy it, dump it and put it on EBay. Once it is sold each person who put up money would get a percentage of the sale back.

For instance, if you put up 10% of the purchase price, you would get 10% of whatever it sold for. This way we get the game and it would probably only end up costing everyone the amount of a rental.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you will never be able to sell it on ebay. What would you put? N64 roms for sale? They will take it down faster than you can say "Yes, im the man."

Ummm I think he was talking about selling the cart http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif . But it would be a tough sell I think.

i think people tried doing that in the past but it always ends up everyones a cheapskate and nothing gets bought. anyways, buywrong is probably the worst company to buy something from.

Yes, I meant the cart. http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif There are a few Japanese carts on ebay now which have received a number of bids. Neon Genesis is going for $87! It comes with an adapter, but they are only worth about $10.

What's wrong with buyrite? Do you have any recommendations for places to get N64 imports?

I would hope that there is 7 people in this forum that would give just $10, with the possibility of getting it back. If not, that's quite sad considering there are about 2000 registered members.

Well, my bad. That's not a bad idea. I would do it if more than just 2 people will chip in.

This pyramid buyinf scheme does sound like a good idea, however..

If you follow the plan, you'd club together to buy the cart, then one of you whould dump it, and keep the rom until the cart was sold..

I can see a number of problems there, being able to trust the people to send the cash, and then been able to trust the person you send the cash to for one.

Plus what happens if you all save up and then 2 days before you manage to sell the cart MNC releases the rom?

It's a good idea, but.. will it work ?

I was actually considering buying a bunch of Jap carts from the MIA list, but the guy I was trying to order them via basicaly fucked me over.. So I'm not too keen to try it again. Unless anyone has any recomendations for importers?

maybe mnc will read this thread and see that there is a huge demand for custom robo. my grievance is the lack of dedication to japanese roms shown by rom sites. even if custom robo was dumped in a month it would be nearly impossible to find.

I guess there's always going to be a downside when trying to do something like this, but I'd be willing to pitch in some $$$ to help purchase unreleased games. Let's face it, we all have somewhat of an investment in our "backup devices." Basically, this is a leap-of-faith type thing. All it takes it getting burned once to end this type of thing quickly.

With that said, another option might be to offer the purchased carts to other members who submit money. I'm not sure what the "fair" way to do it is, but that might go a long way to nudge people to get involved in something like this.

I agree that this is a good idea. I also think that CrowTRobo is the perfect person to implement this plan. He should be the money holder and the one who orders and dumps the game. Figure the people that replied to this message alone would only have to pony up around $9 each for each unreleased game... but I'm sure there'd be a lot more takers.

I have ordered from BuyRite in the past and well i personally didnt have a problem, i know someone here in my town (Jap Import Store) who has, and some people online too..

I figure if i order COD, how much will they fuck it up lol.

Anyway personlly my favorite Import store for games is The Rage www.therage.com. (http://www.therage.com.) You get your shit in like 2 days and they COD.

If you want to get personal rating on Import stores check out: http://buywrong.8m.com/
they got a lil forum too..

You know that saying on BuyRites page, that goes if your not buying from BuyRite your not buying rite lol well u might notice that this pages saying is - If you are not being fucked by BuyWrong.. your not getting fucked right! lol ya this page was started by someone who got FUCKED HARD CORE by BuyRite

It has links and info to alot of good import/video games online sellers...

Anyway, cya

I have no intentions of ripping anyone off. I would only cash checks/money orders until there is enough money to buy a game. If for some reason a game can't be bought (or if it was released in the meantime), I would just inform everyone to cancel the payment and if they want, return the check/money order.

Of course there is a risk of after buying the cart, but before it is dumped, a group releases the rom. One idea would be to announce a title that has been bought and hope groups would acknowledge what we are doing and not release that particular game.

Basically I was thinking of coming up with a name for this and having a group of sorts. But there won't be any members. The only names in the nfo files would be the people who contributed for that particular game.

I will have a web page up soon with various info, a way to sign up, etc.

Oh, I forgot to address one of Redbox's concerns. I would release the game as soon as it's dumped. There really is no need to wait until it's sold. I can't guarantee that the game would even be sold. That's why I came up with this idea. If a number of people are willing to spend $5-$10 vs one person spending $70, there is a lot less risk involved.

Even if you could dump the game, that doesn't mean we could play it. It might need some weird patch, PAL patch, save patch, etc.

If I went about it, I would probably just buy it, dump it, pass that around & sell it on ebay.

kdogg, I checked out that forum. It's a little hard to trust some of the people's claims on that forum with such clever topics as "Buyrite raped me, prison style!" and other people accusing the owner of being a pedophile.

Anyway, I checked out a lot of online places that sold import N64 games and only found two that had games which haven't been dumped:

Buyrite (Custom Robo & Kirby 64)
Chips & Bits (Custom Robo, but it's on back-order)
