I don't know, it probably checks for the presence of the save chip.

You ABSOLUTELY need a flash ram boot cart or the game will freeze when you go to play.

I've been looking for a new or 2nd hand C&C here for ages Jamsed, but no luck. I'm going to have to buy JFG, or god-forbid, Pokemon instead. http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/wink.gif

why don't you wait for starcraft 64 rumors go that it will have a 6101 chip

I finally got my V64jr. Running into a few problems regarding games that have non-standard boot chips. With JetForce Gemini I have C&C Boot card only, no DS1, no standard emu-adapter. I load the zelda boot emu, turn on the N64, load USA Jetforce Gemini rom. It runs but I am unable to run, shoot, or save. WT_Riker: Are you using the USA version of this ROM with your V64jr? Also Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium, I load the boot emu (Diddy Kong Racing Boot Emu), turn on the N64, and send the game. I have a blank screen.

If I am doing something wrong please let me know what it is. I am using ELIM as the sending tool. All 6101 games boot and run fine.

Thanks!

I could wait for Starcraft, but that will be expensive, I could buy a JFG cheap. The bootchip doesn't really matter, it can be worked around.

As for fab's problem, makesure when you send the rom that is "protected" with Elim that you use the --nocrc option. If you edit the rom in any way, or calculate a Mario-Type crc, the rom will not boot.

After further fiddling here's what currently is occurring. With Elim --nocrc or not it doesn't work. With Bung's Windows Send Utility 2.0 it will work some of the time. It's very strange though. When Bung's tool launches it is set to Write Protect On, Card Off, if I change it to Write Protect Off and then send the boot emu, turn on the N64 and then send Pokemon Stadium it has about a 70% chance of working. If I turn off the N64 and do the exact same thing it has a 0% chance of working. If I then change either the Write Protect or the Card to On or Off or change them both I have another 70% chance of it working again. Very odd IMO. Does Elim have an option to turn on Write Protect or Card or should that matter? And

Jetforce Gemini still doesn't work correctly in any case. WT_Riker are you using the PAL version of JFG? If so that may be why it is working for you as I've heard that the PAL version doesn't exhibit the non-run/broken gun problem that the USA version exhibits.

I tried the PAL version of JFG just to test it and it also has the run/shoot problem.

Fab: is your v64 jr 256 mbit of ram or 512? I think it only works with run and shoot on 512 units because the extra ram allows enough room for the bootemu.

I have a 512Mbit unit (I've even tested Resident Evil 2 and it works great). I don't understand the whole JFG thing. I've heard no-one except WT_Riker and Neouni say that it has worked correctly. It seems like true copy protection, not just a boot chip thing. When you start the level Juno stands there and shakes his gun like it's broken. WT_Riker said to me one time that NO Nintendo 64 games have true copy protection, only boot chip and save chip methods of protecting their games. I somehow don't buy that with the case of JFG not working and the need for more than just boot code replacement. I dunno, just sorta disappointed in the fact that JFG doesn't work after getting the V64jr.

The extra ram has nothing to do with it, if you think about it, you'll see that when the rom is sent it overwrites the bootemu in the copier's ram.

N's copy protection is the Security chip (the cic chip).

JFG doesnt have the Mario-Type bootcode/cic so it won't be a good choice for most people as a bootcart. Whereas C&C does have the Mario-Type bootcode/cic so people can use it easily to save with. And no, I can't find a C&C cart for sale.

Ok W.T. but you still haven't said how you can run and shoot and save in the Final version of JFG . The only way that I know would work is to use JFG as the bootcart which does allow you do run, shoot , and save on Z64.

I have a 512 Mbit V64 jr. with a US N64. I used the zelda bootemu2 with the US jfg rom and I have the same problem of not being able to run and shoot. This is the only game that I cannot get to work correctly on my V64 jr. Everything seems to work perfectly including saving except for the run and shooting problem.

Whew, glad to not be the only one that couldn't get Jetforce Gemini to work properly. I even went out and rented it and redumped it and it was identical to the one that is available. Funny thing is that even with the JFG cart in the V64jr loading the UNMODIFIED JFG cart it wouldn't boot.

Ok, I can consistently get the bootemus to work with the V64jr now.. even with Elim. I can get all games that I have tried to boot and save properly including Flash Ram games when using C&C boot cart. I have also confirmed that it doesn't appear to be possible to save Flash Ram games even when booting with the C&C cart on a V64 (not jr). Must have something to do with the way that emulation adapter works, somehow preventing the game from seeing the flash ram. In fact I couldn't even get Pokemon Stadium FINAL to boot on the V64 even with a boot emulator, much less save. I was able to get Pokemon Snap CZN Cracked to save fine with a C&C cart in the slot on my V64jr, leaving hope for a similar crack for Pokemon Stadium USA.

I am working on putting together a FAQ for both the V64 and the V64jr/E64 for at least USA games which will hopefully be a one-stop place to look for KNOWN GOOD INFO that should help others get the most out of these units.

what are you blabing about not being able to run and shoot on the Z64, jb0395
if the game runs on the Z you can shoot and run and when you put a fresh flashram save on the disk you can even have a 1 time to play the 1 time player mode

I can't get the DiddyKongRacing Bootemu to work with the MNC version of Pokemon Stadium. It cant be how I'm sending the files cause I can get other bootemu's to work with other games, just not this bootemu and pokemon stadium. I think I might try to redownload Pokemon Stadium and maybe it will help.

Neouni: Um yes you can run and shoot if you use Zelda, DK, or JFG as bootcart .

I'm talking about how neither the bootemu 2 nor the bootchip function allows you to run and shoot.

i can't get the USA verion to work on my N64 PAL machine because Z64 bootchip still is based on bootemu's that don't worrk 100% on all games
and i can't use diddy bootemu because it blocks out PAL territory
