Just to let you know that your effort in producing a crack for Pokemon Stadium is much appreciated. While most folks can boot this item with a boot emu, having a working crack is more convenient in my opinion.

I hope this proves that the scene isn't dead without CZN or whatever.

Well it would be better proof if the crack eliminated the need for a Flash boot cart too http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif . I mean all this does is give you an alternative to using the diddy bootemu or the Z64 boot chip function . Don't get me wrong this crack is much appreciated and I applaud Redbox for spending his time doing it.

Well, yes, people are always going on about how cracks are soooo easy to make and the like. And how what Titanik does is nothing special. So why don't you all help out us coding skillz lacking lam0rs? Seems to me like Titanik has been doing it since the beginning, and people are just now jumping on the "cracks are easy" bandwagon. And yes, I hear of Titanik's "motivations" and the like. But I'm just curious why it's taken so long for people to get going on this easy crack work. Now don't get all pissy, no offense to anyone ;p

My motivation in producing a Pokemon Stadium crack was bascialy :

1) to prove (to myself) that I could do it
2) stop the nagging I get from people about there not being a crack for it
3) something to do.

Why hav'nt I been doing them since day 1? Well, it's something called TIME and the lack of it.. I do have a bunch of other stuff to do, like the dextrose chart, maintinaing a relase list, etc.. and of course a real job in the real world witch takes up far far too much of my "spare time" as it is..

Producing cracks IS easy, I never really realised HOW easy it was until last year when I decided I wanted to use the action replay/game shark cheats on banjo to get the extra hidden items... to be stopped by CZN's anti AR/GS code... So I decided to do it myself..

I'm currently in the prossess of writting a FAQ about CIC chips and how the bootstrap works etc, I was planning on covering how "cracks" work in that..

But it comes back to that mysical "time" again..

Cool !! I hope to see this FAQ soon http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, this document would be nice to see...

ps. If you're taking requests for cracks, I'm sure we'd all like to see a proper boot crack for Donkey Kong 64 that allows proper saving in it's native format, and oh hmm... a Jetforce Gemini crack... http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

Talking about bootcodes.. http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've just uploaded my new little CRC util (RN64CRC) which is able to calc 6101, 6102, 6103, 6105 and 6106 CRC's ..

I have mailed the util to RedBox, but until he updates the Dextrose page you can download it from:

How does this tool work? Does it just simply tell you what bootcade a game uses or can it actuall convert the game to regular bootcode so cracks won't be needed?

After scanning several ROMS it would appear that RN64CRC sees games like Yoshi's Story and Cruis'n World as having CIC-NUS-6106 boot code. Every other place I've ever seen this boot code mentioned has it as 6104, including Paladin. Which would be correct?

Well all I know is that I opened up the USA versions of Cruis'n World and Yoshi and it said "6106" on the chip.

I've never seen any 6104 chip/bootcode.

My best guess will be that it's used in the 64DD or that Nintendo simply skipped it..

If we are being predantic about the whole thing, all the jap carts I've opened have a cic-6101 chip, where all the us carts have a cic-6102 chip.... same CIC CRC, but different codes..

I've also seen cic-6105 and cic-7105 chips..

I've also seen reports of a 7101 chip in some recent pal carts..

The problem is that Nintendo dont seem to be following the rules they set out orginaly for bootchips...

It's wrong of people to refer to boot chips as cic- anything, what they are talking about is the bootcode.

In an attempt to sort this mess out, for once and all, this was part of my FAQ, However, thanks to conflicting reports and basicaly people lying about things, I've decided that I'm only going to rely on evidence of my own eyes (please refer any responces on the subject of phenomology to freud@dextorse.com) to which end I've been taking a lot of trips to block busters to open/redump carts..

There was talk of adding a "scans of the inside of carts" section to dextrose, but basicaly, I've asked around and noone seems will to contribute...

From what I've discovered pal carts have the 7 prefix, and the ntsc carts have the 6 prefix. Though I'd like to see more cart scans...

Well the reason why I call them 61xx is simply because of Mario (6101) http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway I have another sugestion.

Why not call the codes by the "first game" its used in, so:

6101 = Mario
6102 = Lylat Wars / StarFox 64
6103 = Diddy Kong Racing

etc. etc.

So we all can forget about the prefixes!!

Hey RaO! Nice util!

Anyway, is there any chance of you (when you have time, of course http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/wink.gif) updating it to crack the ROM to 6101 and re-calc it's CRC, kinda like what PALadin does? (except PALadin only does 6103 http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/frown.gif)

Well, the way I'm going to refer to them from now on, is via the actual value held in the CIC eprom...

that will confuse the lot of you
