If i mod the DX256 to act as an emulation adapter... it will work with the DS1(that also work as emu adapter) ??? I ask that because i lose my original emu adapter and i read on some post that games like StarCraft run without the DS1 pluged in.
Thanks and sorry for my poor english http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/wink.gif

Ego_UK wrote the artical on Dextrose about turning a DX256 into a pass through adaptor about 2 years ago:
http://www.dextrose.com/info/0530dx256m.htm
However I've heard people say since that it dont work with the newer DX256's.
I took my DX256 apart to see if this was true and I noticed that the inside of my DX256 looked nothing like the one in the picture. The two solder points were nowhere to be seen, and there was no "Open for EMU" markings on it.
I do belive that some company will still have emulation adapter's in stock, try asking around.

Yes, it's simple to mod a DX256 to act as an emu adapter, and the DS1 plugged into a DX256 (acting as an emu adapter) works fine.
It's a pitty they removed the option, its rather handy having it there, pitty the DS1 didn't have it either. http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/frown.gif

Wait. Isn't the DS-1 by default an emulation adapter? I use it by itself, with a Mario cart, on my V64.

Well... RR64 need Pod Racer, but what happend with Pokemon Stadium ??? what games need C&C to save ???
Adolescent : Yes, the DS1 act as emu adapter, but games with flashram hang with it or something like that

Raponchi: do you have a V64 or V64jr or other? If you have a V64 you will not be able to save flashram games at all currently.

Yes, i have a V64. Why the V64 can't save flashram games ??

Raponchi: Unfortunately I don't know why it doesn't work, I just know it doesn't work. I have a V64 and a V64jr and saving works fine (with a Flashram capable 6101 boot card) on the V64jr where it does not work with the V64. Maybe someone here can give a good technical reason why...

The point is quite simple, and is based on how the "emulation adapter"
works:
when the V64 was designed, only the EEPROM and CIC chips from a real
cart where needed in order to run a game, even more in a cart there
was only one or two ROM chips.
To perform its deeds the emulation adapter cuts the line CART_RD,
preventing any read to the cart while the doctor V64 provides the "fake"
cart to the N64.
If you place a SRAM (or FLASH) cart on the emulation adapter, all the
memory on the cart is not readable (both ROM and RAM/FLASH), so the
cart can't be used.
The V64jr passthru port is able to detect what part of the cart the
N64 is accessing so will only disable the access to the ROM, leaving
the SRAM and FLASH available.

Then the only 1 solution is buy a V64jr ??? http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/frown.gif too bad

You can probably make it work by opening the cart, removing the ROM chip, and then using it without the emulation adaptor.

Raponchi, the CD64 saves flashram fine with C&C, so the Jr is not the only option.

Yeah, if you've the right tools you can remove the rom chip from the
cart and use it; an easier solution is to cut the pins 7 and 20 of the
ROM CHIP -- all you need is a dremel tool (and a VERY firm hand) or a
diagonal cutter.

Unscrew, take the plastic case off, remove the RF shield, take out the printed circuit board...
what cart ???

Could`nt you mod the emu adapter instead of the cart? That way you dont need on of the dodgy screwdrivers.
If anyone has any idea how to do it please post some info.

Altho there talking about opening the DX-256
i assume you mean you want one of the screw drivers that is used to open N64 consoles and carts ?
Cuz the DX-256 is a normal philips head screw driver, small one..
Anyway if you mean the one to open the n64 console and carts try:

hmm....let me see......you COULD pay a few bucks on one of those screwdrivers.....or........you could just make your own in about 5 min....
it took me 5-10 min to make mine.....and it works fine.....
