Rare has won hasnt it? All they need to do is put this insidious protection in all there future games (er Conker, and Dino Pl..- nope thats dead). No lame will just have to wait and see answers please.

Someone has to send some DIY instructions on getting rid of the check the cart code, that was talked about recently.
Most people are getting pass the Unpacking stuff..

Is anybody working on a Banjo crack(somebody say somthing if they are).
PS whatever happened to Titanik

Well, a large part of the problem is that the people who have made cracks never documented the methods that they used to do so.

I can look at a crack, and say, for example, "I see that you changed the branch instruction at memory locaton 80706050 and I can see how this bypasses the bootcode check..." but that does not answer the question, "How did you discover that the bootcode check was located at memory location 80706050?"

In other words, when finding a needle in a haystack, the result does not reveal the process.

I've investigated Banjo Tooie out of curiousity, but I am not seriously working on making a crack for it.

As you mentioned, I did succeed in unpacking the first section of it (I assume that there are many more sections of compressed data beyond that.) And I could write a technical description of how that was accomplished. I just wonder if anyone would actually be interested in reading it...

I would be. http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't plan on making a crack for BT, etc. I don't really have the skills for cracking, my assembly is very limited. But I still would be interested in reading that kind of info.

Yeah I read up on all the material I can, I've managed to crack a few programs myself (nothing n64 related) by reading tutorials on other programs...I still can't figure out WHY it works but I know enough basics that using the same formula that 85% of the time you can make a successful crack. I'm sure that if lac would help us with some tutorials of his own that we could intend help repay him by giving him a break...I'm sure there are people out here who would know exactly how to crack the game if they just had a nudge in the right direction...The only problem I see is the guys who hold the knowledge would rather keep it to themself then share it....If everyone knew how lac was cracking these games, maybe the big N would know exactly how to target his attack and implement a protection scheme based on defeating that..

Oh well, I guess i'll just have to resort to buying 5 games instead of 3.... http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Or maybe what else whould happen is the idiots like *wee*/H* whould take that information and start to produce thier own cracks trying to pass it off as thier own hard c0ded l33t sk1llz, when infact it's a piss poor pathetic attempt at self grandication by a nomark looser with more time on his hands than porn to down load from usenet.

You know, I (and I'm sure others) want to know what the hell have you done? You come on as a moderator, nobody ever heard of you before and all you do is talk shit about people. You have not made one single constructive post since you've been here.

If we take your attitude, then maybe Locke shouldn't have released his ultra64 source which helped a lot of coders learn how to correctly program for the N64. If that happened, you most likely wouldn't see many homebrew demo's or games, now would you?

your damm right he should'nt, of course we've seen some demos and games, but I'm sure that the people who produced them did not base thier work around Lockes, there were demos and things around LONG BEFORE Lockes released ultra64.

how many lamers recomplied ultra64 with thier own text in and tried to pass it off a a new demo?? too many.

well that happens in every scene...1 person releases code to something, some people learn and utilize...others rip the code off and produce countless iterations of the same shit...

it's lame. and it happens. and no one then releases code/tutorials.

Yes some people just replaced the text, but do you see any of those here? Or other websites? No, the only person who probably will ever see those type of 'demos' is the person who made it. But there are legitimate demo's and games that were written from the knowledge learned from sharing info.

Again, if we take your attutide, you wouldn't see much of anything being released, except ROM's being dumped. Maybe that's all you care about?
