Just to let you know, our pal Acey has recived what is claimed to be a new BIOS for the Z64, hes got it on his webpage for those of you wanting to try it.

I've also been sent a copy, but as I have no way of testing it I'm not going to post it here just yet, if someone who knows what they are doing wants to try it out and let me know if it's valid, I'll post it....

If you want my advice, I'd wait and see if someone else can get it to work...

Profit from others missfortunes.

...in a perfect world maybe. The z64station has it, and I may try it out.

BTW in case it does fry, does anyone know a good eeprom flashing util? I have an old VX based mobo and wanna flash my dvd player and z64 (if it gets fried). I also have another z64 eeprom off my old board. Is there a way to reflash this one if 2.30 is a bomb?

well, without even trying it...

It's a fake

well, it's IDENTICAL to the fake v2.18 release

only someone has hex edited the vesion number from the fake 2.18 that was going around last year, and hexedited the version number.

take a look at

If that was really sent by Mr. Backup and not by someone posing as them, that's really pathetic.

If I was'nt so chartitable I'd wonder if it was such a coincidence that it came out soo soon after Conker, it almost makes it look like someone was trying to sell some Z64's on the pretense it could play Conker......

RedBoX I think you have been a little too hasty in your dismissal of this new BIOS. I mean it could have been advantagous too see some try and run it first, before you go and get clever and compare it with the fake 2.18 release.

Although it has obviously been a fake it may have been fun too see someone test it out. I do not believe that it is totally impossible to upgrade a Z64 to recognise anothe 32MB of RAM. Surely it is possible with a little work by someone knowledgable of what they are doing.

Anyways good news that I remembered my password eh!?

I'm not an expert on the Z64, but I thought I once read that the .IMG has a CRC in it, and the z64 dont boot if it's not correct.

Assuming that 2.18 worked (and people said it did) hex editing the version number whould invalidate that CRC.

So what we have here, if I'm correct, is something that whould ruin your Z64.

One of the many Z64 experts on this forum like to comment?

What the fuck?

Am I one of the "few" people who have loaded bios 2.18?

I did it a while ago, and don't think there is anything new in it. Why the fuck do I have it loaded. shit.

I've got the 2.18 bios, works fine, only advantage is you can play PD and backup the mem pak save. Didn't fuck up anything http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

i think mempack save came around 2.01 or somewhere near that

so thats a old function

Mempak saves arn't new, just the ability to save a mempak to a file while playing a 6105 game that normally would require a bootemu is.

I've got 2.17... I d/led it when I got my
z64...2.18 scared me...so I didn't 'upgrade'...

I would be nice if the z would support >256Mbit but there aren't that many games so I don't mind buying those...

just bought resident evil 2 and it's rad... £32... cheaper than buying a jr :)

if memory serves there is a program here on dextrose that will recalculate the crc of a z64bios image.

One of the reasons I bought my backup was so I could play games when they were DUMPED. I have to wait a fucking month to buy the damn thing now.

I guess you got out of bed on the wrong side... :)

there are 5 games that are >256:

Conker's BFD 512 Mbit
Pokemon Stadium 2 512 Mbit
Orge Battle 64:APoLC 320 Mbit
Paper Mario Story 320 Mbit
Bio Hazard/Resident Evil 2 512 Mbit

if that's the _only_ ones I can't copy and the rest I can (with/without prot) then I think that's not bad...

I think how many games I haven't paid for... yes it's a big inconvenient but unlucky...

Yes we do get carts normally before they are released either JAP or pre-retail in US but not this time...

I want CBFD... but I'll just have to wait...

.deal with it.

Look at those 5 games.
Now look how many will make it to the UK by August.
Now look how many might not even make it here at all.
That's why it's fucking annoying. I had to buy 4 adapters to play NTSC games on my SNES that were exceptionally good at crashing, then deleting my saves for Top Gear 2 and Final Fantasy 3, and I don't want to have to go through all the money for that on top of CEX's ridiculously high import prices. Like most (yeah right) people here I do buy games that are worth it, if they come out here while I still care about them, but the >256 games all seem to be ones that don't make it across the Atlantic.

yes I agree that ogre battle may not make it to EUR, since it's a small target audience. But re2 did. Paper Mario will! and I doubt that rare would release a game that all the team COULDN'T play on their own consoles.

and anyway there's nothing stopping you d/ling the rom and drooling :)
