If anyone wants to help out in a big way with the crack I am STILL working on, let me know by email at lac@dextrose.com
I know alot of your already emailed me about this. But I have to run some tests first on someone. :)
Here is the only type of person I am looking for, if you don't match the following criteria, DO NOT email me.

The person must have:
- V64jr
- DS1
- 6105cic cart WITHOUT 16kbit eeprom (like zelda: ocarina of time).
- Also this person MUST be willing to play through the entire game from the beginning using my test patch.

I'd like to work with someone who has tested stuff for me in the past, if possible.

Whoever can help will be helping everyone else to someday be able to play a final cracked version of this game on all backup units using of course a 6102cic bootcart.
That is all.
Thanks.

The holy grail has almost arrived.......

Lac why not release this patch, as an Alpha release, to all on dextrose. Then let people tell you when it stops working or crashes. This way us impatient people (free loaders, who dont want to pay for pd...) get to play BFD.

I understand that hypothetically, the game may still work with this crack but the player may miss out vital chunks of the game, because of Rares protection mechanism. But people who play with alphas have to understand this.

Also this way peole who have completed the game using V64 and DK, PD JFG cart can also validate your crack with their DS1 saves.

Any way good job, great effort. whatever you decide.

Generally many of the "free loaders" also have OVI (operator's vivid imagination) problems and are not the type of people that one would like to have help debug something.

That might be just a typo on your part, but LaC is talking about a BT crack. Conker doesn't need one, it works perfectly fine with a 16kbit eeprom cart and his bootemu.

Lac, keep it going, I can play both these games anyway, but you're doing a good job, though I bet you've had enough of looking at the BT code by now huh?

Vert, that's funny. I let a friend use my old Doc V64 128 Mbit, and now it's broke. Sad times. So anyways, maybe you can help me. When I put my "backup" copy of FF7 in my DocV64, the cd spins, but it won't play the game! What can I do?!?! Do I need a mod-chip? thanks. (hehehe)

Hi Paterchon,
youīve got the same hardware, but it didnīt worked. Maybe itīs just because I am using the pal N64 with the pal DK bootcart. Any ideas?

i gather you are using the pal version of the rom and NOT the ntsc version -> PAL+PAL+PAL NOT PAL+PAL+NTSC ???

To Paterchon:
Yes, DK64 will work fine to play Banjo-Tooie.
But, as you are using a PAL system, you'll also need to use paladin and rn64crc before using the rom.
Paladin and Rn64crc can be found in dextrose.
Instructions:
Place paladin and rn64crc in the same directory as the banjo tooie rom. Don't forget to backup the original rom.
Supposing your rom is called btooie.rom, do the following (just use the proper name of the rom): You must be in a DOS window.
paladin /b /f btooie.rom
This will disable the Country Check the rom does when it's loaded.
Make sure a message tells you that the country check has been fixed. Should say something like: Forced to think its NTSC.
Now type this:
rn64crc -u btooie.rom
This will correct the CRC of the rom, which was corrupted after fixing the country check.
Now the game is playable on your PAL system (only if you use DK64 as bootcart).
PD: It is very difficult to explain how to load a ROM, since there are many things to keep in mind. But you should know:
1. Each ROM has a type of bootchip or "cic". Most backup units only support the older ones. So, if there is no crack for that ROM with that bootchip, you'll need a cartridge with the same bootchip as bootcart. Rn64crc allows you to know the cic of a rom. LaC released a Universal Bootemu, but it does not work with Banjo Tooie. So you'll need a cartridge with 6105 bootchip in order to load this game. DK64 uses that bootchip.
2. There are different save methods. Basically there are eeprom, 4xeeprom, sram, flashrom and mempack. Unfortunately, most backup units only support eeprom, sram (DS1) and mempack, so the others are a big trouble. Lots of fixes have been released, so right know only a few games cannot be saved. But, if you use a boot cartridge with the same save type of your rom, you'll be able to save.
3. So bootchip and save type are essential. If you have a ROM with 6105 bootchip and 4xeeprom save type, unless there is a crack you won't be able to load it and save. Other solutions are:
a) Use a bootcart with same bootchip and save type (in this case DK64 or Perfect Dark)
b) Use a protected cart decoder (PCD) to combine two cartridges with the appropiate bootchip one of them, and the same saving method the other one.
c) Find a way to bypass the bootchip and use a bootcart with standard bootchip (6102) and the same save type (Star Wars Ep.1 Racer would be one of the cartridges that uses 4xeeprom).
Z64 emulates 6105 bootchip in some cases, and also LaC's bootemu. Zelda 2, for example, saves using flashrom. Using z64 On Screen Display you can emulate that bootchip, then you just need a cartridge with standard bootchip and flashrom save type to load and play it (command&conquer for example -modified depending on the backup unit you are using).
4. Other things to keep in mind are the origin of the rom (if it's from Japan, USA, or Europe) and the CRC of the ROM. Paladin and RN64CRC usually solve this problems.
So don't forget this: it is imperative that you know the bootchip and save type of the cartridges you own or that you'll need.
Please, feel free to correct me.
