View Full Version : Why is Doc Jr only a 76%

If the Doc Jr offer a low price, back up ability, and use by coders, why didn't it get a higher grade? If having to directly link it to my computer to load a ROM doesn't bother me, what should keep me from buying it instead of a Z64 (less features, less abilities, can't handle patches/bios)?

hey don't believe everything your read just cause that one guy put a OPINION up its his opinion the doc jr may be great for you, not him. He obviously has a z64 thats why it got like a 94 % or whatever it got, it was even pretty funny how he put the doc down around 70 something %. but oh well.

Well, I bought mine to load and run roms. This it does flawlessly. It runs *everything* I've thrown at it and it even uploads quickly, *really* cheap too.

My mark: 99% (-1% cos' mine is grey and I wanted a green one)

Hey all , just to reply to Kurdt:

Yes that's true that it's only MY opinion and not the word of god !!

To all : this opinion is based on the fact that you are dependant from a PC which is maybe not a problem for you but could be for other people : what is cheaper ? a z64 or a jnr+pc ?

That's my point and that's why z64 rules for me everything : I SOLD THEM ALL (not only z64 to reply to someone here) and I even started with the doc more than one year ago , I've been official distributor for cd64 for a while (review will be out tomorrow with a 29% because of the manufacture) but I have to tell you that for me sales on internet are poor and for lazy guys business only : it is easier to sell by replying mails only than to really advertising a product and demonstrate it to stores ... I'm a real life sales man and here in Belgium and France I like the fact that z64 is booming (after I failed to touch the same kind of customers with other copiers) because it has the better technology , it's easy and fast to use (don't forget there are kids out there ) and YOU ARE NOT DEPENDANT from a PC or , even worse , your local games dealer that charge you big time for his free roms ... The rate is not one to agree with X or Y needs but with large public that counts kids and so on ...
But even though , it is still MY opinion on the market and MY experience !! Don't quote me or anything , just read some reviews , some sites , watch all the units by yourself and then make your own thoughts about what is thez best for YOU !! That's how life goes...

Hi, sorry about the delay in this response.

I got mine from Madeira games in the UK (www.madeiragames.com). They can save the VAT (tax) when sending outside of Europe so knock 17.5% off the prices you see on their web page.

One other thing, I hope that future reviews will take into consideration the 'context' of a piece of H/W. Comparing the Jr to the Z and the V is pretty pointless, its a completely different piece of kit that sells for less than half the price of the V64 ! What it does, it does superbly ...
Having said that, I only found out the other day that Z owners are waiting nearly two minutes for a 256mb ROM to load ! (Jr=50 secs) Wahey ! http://www.dextrose.com/ubb/smile.gif

All copiers are loading a 256 megs rom in around 1 minute : z64 does it in 64 secs ... What you saw here is the post of a guy having problems with his z64 with which loading time is slower than what it has to be and asking if it's normal ... IT'S NOT : the z64 loads/copies 1 Mbyte in 2 seconds.

Merry christmas to all of you !!

Well, he wasn't the only one who claimed the same times for 256mb ROMs ...

Anyway, how can you say that all copiers take around a minute ?
" It takes more than one minutes to load a 128 megs game ... WITH A GOOD PC!! " <<<quote from your Jr review ...

Going on a spree; bumping old topics for the sake of correcting misinformation... Well, at the time you wrote this it was the only mass-produced backup device which didn't have a "back up ability."

agreed - now it's the only one that does everything ... except for that pesky computer requirement....

I thought you could get that parallel adapter for the PSX and use it to load games, right? I know it tied in with the normal V64 and the GBX.

Well that could be more pesky than using a computer. Not everyone owns a playstation.

and that multi-flash-linker is so goddamn slow, you might as well code the entire game into a gameshark by hand first....
