Just saw in the news section the details on soldering yourself a battery-less rumble pack. Does this really work and, if so, how? Has anyone done it?
I'm assuming this post went in the N64 Scene section- Sorry if I screwed it up.

I did a mod with a tremor pak and to my surprize, it did work. With the nintendo stuff costing more than aftermarket products, you better hope it works.

Yes this works, and if you would check
Resources/Modifications you will find a few
of those types of mods.

Why don't they offer them that way? Nintendo doesnt own any battery companies :-)

I'm considering modding my rumble pack to work without batteries, but I have a question first...
Does the 'rumble' seem any stronger or weaker after modification as compared to when it runs on battery power?

same rumble with or withoue batteries although people have bought and added stronger components to make for stronger vibration... err rumbling.

My Noki pack, self powered, vibrates so strong it often falls out. Same with other people who use it, cool though.
Now if I could just modify my vibrating chair and hook it up to the nintendo. Fun, just like the rumble chair thing they have for $40 . US
How about a quake pack? Is there a mod for this to work w/o batteries?
Thx for any response.

I think Handy had a good point, why doesn Nintendo make rumble packs battery-less? I mean the modification is so simple and it works exactly the same, but with no batteries. Is anything lost because of this mod? is it in anyway unsafe? There must be something, or else Nintendo is a completely foolish company. Look at sony with their DUal shock controller. But then again sony has some brains in their head because they are ahead of Nintendo with sutch an outdated system, only if the big N was a little smarter.

Because Nintendo doesnt want the rumble pack drawing power from the N64, as that power could possibly be used for something else in the future... Probably not, but they would want to keep their options open... Suppose the 64DD was planned to draw power from the n64 as well... There's only so much power... And maybe 4 rumble packs, all modded, draws too much power?

That must be it your right. 4 rumble packs would draw too mutch power. I never thought of that, u are absolutely right. Has anyone every tried 4 modified rumble packs at a time??? Has any tried 4 at a time and played for a long period of time?

Is there any mod available to connect my vibrator to the N64?
I won't care if it doesn't work without batteries...

Actually, interesting idea. You could buy a "personal massager" from Spencer's or the like, duct tape or epoxy it to the N64 controller, and possibly connect it to the output on a rumble pak. This would be overkill, but would be one mean looking controller. And hey, it might make more women take interest in video games. Hmm, I might actually try this.

I've been reading on "N64 Mod Squad" about turning your N64 Controller into a "Rumble Pad" (Mounting the Rumble Pack Inside the Handset) http://home.swbell.net/geist007/rumblepad_us.htm , I was wondering what happens if you do that, and then mount a memory pack in the handset, because there would be no switch or anything to swap between them. Has anyone done this? Does it work? or is it a one or the other solution?

There are several "Rumble Packs" that are sold battery-less....the "N64 Mod Squad" makes the modifications for those who bought something else, I personally use the Nyko Hyper Pack Plus Mod because its SOOOO Powerful it tends to lightly numb my pinky finger, and you have the x4 memory as well. N.E.Ways....Most people buy what can be found in their local stores....which would be the Tremor Pack Series, Nintendo Rumble Pack, & the Nyko Hyper Pack Plus. And since some of them know we have the modifications for them, they don't have to think twice. Convenience is the subject here. There are over 14 Modification Documents on our page. I suggest you take a look if you don't feel like waiting 3-5 days for a new pack over the web...
E-Mail & ?'s are welcome...

Does anyone know if after using a modified rumble for so many days if the strength of the rumble will decrease, because mine seems to be weaker now. I'm wondering if it's just old or what.

Actually some people will feel a difference in strength of "rumble". For instance, with my Mad Catz- Force Pack, as soon as I made the modification, I noticed it was weaker. Whereas my Nyko Hyper Pack Plus, I've been using it for over a month and it is by far my favorite for it hasn't decreased in strength at all...I've had all sorts of friends in my town ask me out of all the packs, which one is the best & easy to modify. I always recommend the Hyper Pack Plus, and I have always had excellent feedback. If you were to go out and by the Hyper Pack Plus JUST to do the modification then you WILL be satisfied with the end product. I'm not just saying this, I really mean it, from one gamer to another, the modifications really DO work, and for those other packs that aren't as powerful after the mod, its still better than constantly buying batteries. End....Of....Sentence.....

Ok, let me see if im getting this straight...
you would rather bust one open and mod it to get it to rumble without batteries... than buy one that operates without them straight outa the box
now i suppose if its the idea of "modding" it that turns you on, then hey, its your pony, ride it how you want... I guess im just too lazy and since we sell rocker paks for $11.99
ive never felt an urgency to do it

well, thats sort of what I'm saying, the convenience of whats available within a 30 minute trip to the nearest store. But I'm also saying that mainly we all did these modifications for those ppl who bought their packs before knowing that there is one sold battery-less. By all means ppl, if you don't know how to solder or don't want to screw up because it is your first time doing something like this then by all means, buy the Rocker Pack from Harrison Electronics, hell, its cheap enough. However, if your like me, electronics freak, then have a ball making something do what the company knew it could do but didn't want to implement it. Its your choice, it makes no difference to me, I don't make money on this; and like I said in last post, most people in my experience tend to get the one they can get within a 30 minute round trip from their home.
