Here's the response to my e-mail I sent to tristar64.com . Hmmmm $70 seems a bit steep especially if you already own a Snes & Nes or have good emulators for them.

This info is not final and is subject to change.

We will contact you when the Tristar64 is available for sale, which should be within about 2 months.
Price has not been determined yet, however we hope to see the retail price under $70usd. We are negotiating with a company at this time, regarding bundling several 8bit and/or 16bit cartridges with the Tristar64! The price would be higher in the bundle, however it would be available with and without the cartridges if we come to an agreement with this company.
We may offer it for sale on the website also. We have some prototypes available that accept 60 pin Famicom carts (the final version will accept USA NES 72pin carts) and they can be had for about $75 + shipping, and they work on US SNES carts as well as Japanese SuperFamicom carts.

by the way,

www.tristar64.com is a reseller and not sort of subdivision of UFO Company (the manifacturer of the adaptor) since someone asked that recently to me.

And they probably negotiate with UFO about terms and conditions right now.

Anyways, lets see what the final prizes will be in "about two months" ...

GOD DAMMIT! Here I was all excited about the Tristar and totally willing to buy one, and now I hear that UFO's making them? Talk about a morale buster.

This thing better not break down as much as the SuperUFO and the CD64 do, or there's gonna be hell to pay.

I just saw one for sale in china town here in .ca $98 cdn with taxes. I don't really want to play my old nes and snes games that much..

Here is a nice question for ya. Does the tristar64 support snes backup units? They just plug in the cart slot..

Sounds like a rip-off, considering you can buy both a NES and SNES for the same price. That includes controllers too, which the TriStar probably won't come with, making it cheaper just to get the two systems.

Maybe a stupid question...
Is it possible to make a program similar to the one for gameboy booster? So that games can be loaded from Zip-disk/cd-rom?
Would that be really hard?

This is an interesting question..

If it works like the the SNES version, the answer is no..

If it works differently the answer is possibly...

We dont really know until someone gets one... Namely me as onone else seems to care.. If anyone wants to donate a unit to me..... drop me an email.. :> :> :>

For Frozen FiRE:

Yes. It will support backup units as long they can fit into the slot... remember that backup units are nothing but cartridge emulators, so the trisar would see it as a cartridge just as the snes would... they even say so on the site... the only problem is, if you use a backup device, you're still gonna have the DSP problems and such that you had when using an original system... =(
